New additional and selective licensing schemes have recently been confirmed in the London Borough of Redbridge.
Selective Licensing: A new selective license scheme is set to come into force on 1 November 2023 for all privately rented properties in Valentines and Ilford Town wards. Meanwhile, the council's current selective license scheme, covering the old council wards of Goodmayes, Loxford, Snaresbrook, Roding, Newbury, Mayfield, Cranbrook, Seven Kings, Chadwell, Fairlop, Aldborough, and Church End, will end on 30 September 2023. Additional Licensing: The council is also introducing a new additional license scheme, which takes effect on 18 September 2023. This scheme is borough-wide and will run for 5 years. The new scheme applies to most HMOs (Houses in Multiple Occupation) occupied by three or more people, as well as certain buildings converted into flats (S257 HMOs) where all accommodation is privately rented and both the building and accommodation units are under the same ownership or control. |
The Additional HMO Licensing scheme in the Royal Borough of Greenwich ended on September 30, 2022. The council is currently considering the option of introducing another five-year scheme. the start date is yet to be confirmedThis program is applicable to privately rented residences occupied by either a single household or two individuals unrelated to each other within the following council areas: North Walworth, Nunhead & Queens Road, Old Kent Road, Peckham, Camberwell Green, Chaucer, Dulwich Hill, Dulwich Wood, London Bridge & West Bermondsey, Peckham Rye, Rotherhithe, Rye Lane, South Bermondsey, and Surrey Docks.
Southwark council is currently offering a 30% reduction on the fee for selective licenses, applicable to all submissions made prior to 31st of January 2024. This discount results in a decreased fee of £630 from the standard £900. Don't delay and take advantage of this early bird discount. This scheme is in addition to the previous selective license scheme for privately rented properties let out to a single household or two unrelated people located in Champion Hill, Faraday, Goose Green, Newington, and St Giles, which started on 1 March 2022 and runs for 5 years. A newly implemented borough-wide additional licensing scheme, encompassing all Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMOs), is set to take effect in the Royal Borough of Greenwich starting January 1, 2024.
Following the conclusion of the council's prior additional licensing scheme on September 30, 2022, there was a lapse during which no license was required for HMOs accommodating 3 or 4 people. For those holding an existing Additional HMO Licence under the previous scheme, renewal is possible on the designated renewal date. However, if your license expired between September 30, 2023, and January 1, 2024, a new application will be necessary. It is noteworthy that the council has confirmed that the same fees will remain in place until April 2024. |
